Cute or not Cute?

I'm not a gamer, so I can't really speak to that question. However, Linux does have a lot of games. Practically every program in Windows that you could imagine, there are 6-12 choices in Linux. I have 10 browsers, 6 multimedia programs (just for sound), 6 video or movie players, etc., etc. And with all that excess stuff on my system, it is still smaller than a Windows installation.

Besides, Windows is a sinking ship. Maybe they still have the highest % of users, but Linux has really shot up in the past year or so. If you can't think of using any other Linux, try PC Linux. I got it going with no problem, and it never crashes. Also I like ubuntu, kubuntu, etc, but I found PC Linux easier for making the change.

If you want it really flashy, then I recommend Sabayon Linux, with its 3D desktop and a system more advanced even than Vista by a couple years. Unfortunately, if you want any other programs that don't come with the Sabayon installation, you must compile from source. But it is a big installation, and comes on a DVD.

Also, I don't know how much money you have to spend on computers and software, but I don't have much. I build my own systems out of spare parts, so free software is a must. Check out this link:

That was the last straw for me, after a year or two of waffling and half-heartedly saying I would get rid of Windows. No turning back for me.

Here's another thought: it's nearly impossible to get a virus in Linux, even without an antivirus program. That's because Linux users make up only something like 4% of all computer users. When I talk to my ISP, they have nothing to tell me about what to do with my system. Everybody is completely in the dark, except Linux users themselves. I might as well say that I am a witch doctor, and can kill people by pointing the bone at them. People react more or less like that; and it's really not all that hard. And, supposing one were to write a virus for Linux, the question would be, Which Linux? There are Debian, and rpm and umpteenzillion other varieties. So even if a person could write a Linux virus, there's no guarantee it would run on any particular Linux system. Maybe Linux users are only 4%, but there are so many different Linux distros that make up that 4%, and it doesn't pay the hacker to write a virus for one particular distro, which would really be only maybe 1/2 of 1%.

And then, there are the security and privacy issues, and so on. Linux, and Open Source stuff in general, assume that we are real people, just like you and me sending messages back and forth. The Person who writes that stuff is not much different from us. To Microsoft, I am only a number; worse, I am a mark, a chump.

Whatever Linux lacks in games, it won't be long. There are already tons of emulated versions of games that were originally made for Windows systems.
